Sometimes, the online gaming giants can seem a little ruthless. Casinos have a bad reputation in the eyes of many. However, last year, 888 Casino was awarded FTSE4Good membership for their program of positive corporate social action headed by Director of Responsible Gaming Ruth Tanami.

The initiative strives to improve the company’s economic, social, and environmental impact – covering the three main areas: people, planet, and play. A report highlighting the company’s efforts from 2008 proves that 888 Casino takes its public image and corporate responsibility seriously.

In 2008, employee charity events raised a total of $50,000, cash donations and in-kind contributions totalled $232,485, and the company reduced its carbon footprint by facilitating a 13% reduction in office electricity consumption.

The company also participated in the United Nations Global Compact and proved its commitment to responsible gaming with the introduction of a unique data mining system that identifies problem gamblers in order that they may be given support.

Gigi Levy, chief executive officer of 888, said, "The publication of this report emphasises the core importance that ethical values have to 888's business. As well as being the right thing to do, conducting our business responsibly is fundamental to our future success."

"Managing social and environmental factors enhances our credibility with stakeholders, whilst our market-leading approach to player risk builds relationships with our customers, both in turn helping to support our international business development."
